Activities 2017
- Disputation of Danja Sonntag: On the 28th of November 2017 Danja Sonntag defended her PhD Thesis entitled "Safety stock determination in production systems with random yield and positive leadtimes” with great success. The thesis was approved by Prof. Dr. G.P. Kiesmüller (Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg) and Prof. Dr. J. Marklund (University of Lund, Sweden). Besides the two referees, the following collegeaus joined the committee: Prof. Dr. K. Inderfurth, Prof. Dr. J. Ehmke and Prof. Dr. E. Lukas.

Kiesmüller were invited to participate in the twelfth edition of the International Workshop on Cutting, Packing and Related Topics (IWCPRT) which was organized by the KU Leuven in Gent (10th September to 13th September). Christoph Rippe presented his research on the repair kit problem.
- Swedish guest visited the chair of Operations Management: In the week from 28th of August to 1st of September Lina Johansson from the University of Lund (Sweden) visited the chair of Operations Management. The researchers from the University of Lund and from the Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg are working together on a research project entiteld "Approximation Methods for Control of Divergent Inventory Systems with Time Based Shipment Consolidation and Compound Poisson Demand".
- ISIR Summerschool in Vienna: This year the PhD Summerschool of the International Socienty of Inventory Research took place at the University of Economics and Business in Vienna from 21st to 25th August. Christopher Rippe presented his research on the repair kit problem and Julia Zimmermann gave a presentation on the impact of process variability on the joint determination of buffer size and spare parts inventory for manufacturing systems. Additionally, Grundun Kiesmüller gave a presentation on safety stocks in inventory production systems with random demand and random yield.
- Scientific colloquium at FWW: G.P Kiesmüller and her team organized the scientific colloquium on the occasion of the 65th birthday of Prof. Dr. Gerhard Wäscher. On June 23rd, 2017, about 50 colleagues, researchers and experts in the field of Operations Research came together for scientific presentations and discussions. As speakers we could welcome Maria Antónia Carravilla and José Fernando Oliveira (University of Porto), Ramón Alvarez-Valdés (University of València), Brigitte Werners (Ruhr-Universität Bochum), Christian Bierwirth (MLU Halle-Wittenberg) and Richard F.
